Marcelino was proud of his players despite the loss to Deportivo
Villarreal manager, Marcelino García Toral, was very proud and satisfied with his team’s season, despite today’s loss against Deportivo at El Madrigal: “Despite these two final results the season has been really satisfying. We are proud of the players. We have to recognise what this team has done because it’s an extraordinary achievement. We’re the champions of the ‘other’ league”.
The manager spoke about the difficulty of today’s match, mainly because of the tough loss against Liverpool last Thursday: “The match was difficult for us because of our situation going into the game. We wanted to finish the season with a win at home, but getting knocked out by Liverpool was a big hurdle for us to overcome and it still affected us today. When they went ahead it was difficult to react and get ourselves back into the game”.
To finish, Marcelino stated that it was the union of his team and their daily work rate that has been the key to their success: “I think that the team’s success, all season long, has been down to them being a team every day. The secret is the great capacity and professionalism of this squad. We have overcome adversity thanks to the solidarity and sacrifice of the entire squad. Being united has got us this far”.
