Unai Emery emphasised that the game against Real Madrid will be a challenge of the highest level to see where Villarreal CF are at

Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming game against Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu (Saturday, 9pm CEST).

Visiting the Santiago Bernabéu, full of confidence and excitement

“We want to be consistent. We’re at the start of the season. The win against Elche gives us confidence and makes us feel good. We’re going into the game at the Santiago Bernabéu excited and keen to compete and we also have credentials to perform well after what we did against good teams such as Atlético de Madrid and Chelsea.”

A great challenge, competing againt Real Madrid

“Real Madrid have great footballers. Individually, they have a lot of talent, and players who are in good form, such as Benzema. They’ve scored a lot in their last two games at home. All of this means it won’t be easy, but it also motivates us. It’s a challenge for us, and we can see how far we can go against Real Madrid.”

Studying the leaders

“They’ve got Benzema, who is in great form. He is impressing and is at his best at Real Madrid. He scores, he provides assist, and he creates a lot of chances. We have to be intelligent to stop a player who can cause a lot of problems, and also finish moves too. They are very quick on the wings, they’re a physical team, and they have a lot of quality in the middle of the pitch. We have completely analysed Real Madrid. We respect our opposition, but we need to be brave enough to play how we want to.”

Concentration, positioning and effectiveness

“The match lasts 90 minutes. We want to compete and be in the game all the time. We will try and have the game under control, by being good positionally in attack, as well as in attack. We can’t give them space to show off their strengths. We need to capitalise on our chances and be efficient.”
