Gero Rulli underlined that Villarreal CF dream of making history in the Champions League
Villarreal goalkeeper Gero Rulli appeared in front of the media to analyse the important match against FC Bayern this Wednesday (9pm CEST), corresponding to the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The Yellows goalkeeper underlined that the team is excited to continue “making history” in the Champions League: “We’re working with a lot of respect. They’re the favourites, but we want to put in a serious tie and continue taking steps forward in this competition.”
For Villarreal’s No.13, the clash against FC Bayern is the toughest challenge of the season: “They’re one of the best teams in the world. They have earned their right to be among the eight best teams in Europe, but we have too. We don’t feel inferior, despite them going into the tie as favourites. We’ve shown that we’re capable of going head-to-head with any opponent.”
After the sell-out at La Cerámica was confirmed, Rulli emphasised the importance of the supporters in such a demanding tie: “Without the support from our fans, everything would be much more difficult. They helped us through in Turin. They’re crucial. To everyone who believes in us, we can guarantee that we will give everything for this club.”
Finally, the goalkeeper underlined that the team needed to show unity and not gift anything to a top-level opponent: “We will have to be together in every moment. Go into the game united. We will need to put in a complete performance without gifting anything.”
