The striker has returned from the Congo and stressed the importance of getting points in San Mamés

Excited and motivated. Villarreal forward, Cédric Bakambu, explained today that, after going on international duty with the Democratic Republic of the Congo, he has returned to the Submarine stronger than ever, especially with the clash against Athletic Club in mind (8:45pm CET, Estadio de San Mamés). “I didn’t play for the Congo this time, so I’m coming back and I can’t wait to play and help this team. Of course travelling is tiring, but now I must rest to be ready for Sunday. The Manager decides who plays, it’s his call and we’ll have to wait to see what he decides, and if he chooses me or not. I’m very motivated, my goal is to help the team and it’s true that sometimes I’m a bit impatient. But I think it’s good to have that motivation, good to go out on to the pitch and give everything”.

Nevertheless, the French-Congolese striker is conscious that Athletic are tough opponents and a team that is fighting to achieve the same goals as the Yellows. “Athletic are a great team and we know they’re very strong at their ground. But we’re also a good team and we want take points away from this match. The victory would be important, but not definitive. It’s still early to talk about distances, the important thing is to play as well as possible in each match. It’s not the time to think about those things”.

For the Submarine striker, the most important thing is to contribute to the team, which is why his personal goals come second. “The team comes before everything else. To help the team reach our goals is priority. On a personal level, I don’t have a set goal, I was injured for a while and this stopped me from starting the season normally, so I haven’t got an objective for the number of goals I want to score”.
