Atalanta, revolutionising ‘Calcio’
Atalanta, revolutionising ‘Calcio’

The Italian side are taking part in the UEFA Champions League for the third time in a row

Atalanta BC earned their place amongst the elite of European football through their fantastic victories and impressive finishes in the Italian league table. This season, the black-and-blue side are taking part in their third UEFA Champions league campaign, after having finished third in Serie A in the last three seasons (2018/19, 2019/20 and 2020/21).

Managed by Gian Piero Gasperini, the Italian side have surprised many, playing a very attacking, attractive style of football, leading the revolution of ‘il calcio’ as the Italian league’s top goalscorers in the last three seasons.

After establishing themselves as a top-level Italian club, the side from Bergamo have transferred their fearless style of play into continental competition. The Nerazzurri have progressed from the group stages each time that they have tried, something that they’ll be looking to replicate this season. In the 2019-20 campaign, they eliminated Valencia CF in the Round of 16 (4-1 and 3-4), while last season they faced Real Madrid at the same stage, losing out to Los Blancos, 0-1 and 3-1.

Atalanta go into their first game of this Champions League season against Villarreal after a home defeat to Fiorentina at the weekend. Before, they had beaten Torino FC (1-2) and drawn 0-0 with Bologna.
