The club awards gold badges to Bruno, Mario and Musacchio after playing more than two hundred matches

Villarreal CF wanted to recognise the team’s hard work this season and did so by presenting Mario, Musacchio and Bruno with gold badges for playing more than 200 matches wearing the Submarine shirt. The handing out of the badges took place during the end of season lunch at the ‘Entrelíneas’ Restaurant, where the Submarine wanted to recognise the work of players, Management team, Board of Directors, sponsors and fans alike, after what has a been a historical season for the Submarine.

After competing in the 2015/16 season, Bruno Soriano, who could not pick up his award as he is on international duty with Spain, has played no less than 372 matches (283 League, 62 Europe and 27 Copa del Rey) in the Yellow shirt, while Mario has played 227(176 League, 37 Europe and 14 Copa del Rey) and Mateo Musacchio 219 (166 League, 35 Europe and 18 Copa del Rey). The captain of the Submarine, Bruno Soriano, will pick up his award after his time with the Spanish national team.

Musacchio: “It’s a very nice gesture, it’s been seven years at Villarreal”

The Villarreal CF Argentinean centre back, Mateo Musacchio, said it was a thoughtful gesture by the club, where he feels at home. “It’s a very nice gesture, I’m thrilled. I feel good here at Villarreal, it’s my home. It’s already been seven years here for me and they have been very happy ones at this club, I’m really comfortable. It seems like yesterday, but I’ve been here for many years now. We’re having an incredible experience at the moment. The club has grown so much since I arrived and it has been such an impressive year for us after such a great season”.

With regard to next season, the Argentinean defender explained that the Yellows must up their level even more, as the possibility of playing in the Champions League will be a real challenge for Villarreal. “We have already played in other playoffs and we know that we have to go into it completely ready, but you work hard to be at your best for an opportunity like this. It’s a key knockout tie that will shape the whole season for us, but we will face it the best we can and with the will to win. Next year we have to be even more demanding of ourselves because the level will be even higher”.
