Emery underlined the motivation to find a team that can perform well despite the absences
Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse the upcoming match against RCD Mallorca at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Saturday, 4:15pm CET).
The Basque manager underlined that the game against the Balearic side will be a tough challenge due to the high number of absentees: “We’ve overcome big challenges, but it’s also been tough for us to beat midtable teams, whether it be with our regular starters or players who are not featuring as much. We need to be capable of doing so. Being a competitive team, regardless of who is on the pitch, is what motivates me. It’s a great challenge to see how we react. We’re a team that needs to be ready at every opportunity.”
Emery emphasised that the aim is to continue performing in the same way as the recent games at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We’re trying to be consistent. We want to show our character and be a team that presses high and stops the opposition from playing at their best. We’re on the right path at home, where we’re strong. Our challenge is to keep that up, and even improve on it.”
Regarding RCD Mallorca, the Villarreal head coach warned of their danger and their competitive capabilities: “They’re a tough opponent to face. They’re a very competitive team who work hard on every aspect. They’re coming into the game on the back of a defeat, but they showed a good level and they went ahead on the scoreboard. They’re a team who react well from negative results and make it hard to beat them. They have players that know us, that have been here, and will be hunger to perform here.”
Finally, Emery had a message to fans ahead of the game at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We need to feel strong at home, with our supporters behind us. We need to do all we can together to get the three points.”
