Víctor Moreno’s headed goal gives the B team a win against Racing

Villarreal B bid an honourable farewell to LaLiga Hypermotion: victory against Racing Santander (1-0). With relegation already assured, Miguel Álvarez’s side played well in their last game of the season, outplaying their opponents for almost the entire 90 minutes and earning the three points with a solitary goal from Víctor Moreno.

The Yellows dominated the first half, registering almost 70% possession and eight shots, compared to Racing Santander’s two. Good pressing, recoveries in the opposition half and recurrent arrivals in the opposition box.

The best chance on goal, just after the first quarter of an hour, was for Jorge Pascual with a header from Rodri Alonso’s cross, which crashed against the crossbar. Pascual himself, Diego Collado, Requena and Alti all had further chances in the first half, although these were all too close for the Racing goalkeeper.

After the restart, the tempo of the game increased, and although not in such an obvious way, the Yellow Submarine continued to be superior. After two dangerous shots from Requena coming from the back, the goal came and put the Yellow Submarine ahead on the scoreboard: a cross from Alti and a header at the far post from Víctor Moreno, who had just entered the game two minutes before, replacing Jorge Pascual.

Miguel Álvarez’s side managed to hold on to their lead in the 72nd minute. In the final stages of the game Rodri Alonso could have scored a second goal but was denied by the post and Racing also came up against the woodwork on a chance that would have meant an equaliser.

In this way, Villarreal B bid farewell to the 2023/24 season with a very deserved victory against an opponent that was playing for a place in the play-offs for promotion to the first division.
