Funes Mori praises the team’s ability to generate danger but regrets the lack of killer instinct in front of goal
Defender Ramiro Funes Mori has appeared in front of the press to analyse the current situation at Villarreal. The Argentine centre-back hailed his side’s ability to generate goalscoring opportunities, despite not being able to come away with the three points against Levante UD: “We had chances, but we weren’t able to take them. On Sunday we had the ball, we were dangerous, but we didn’t find that killer instinct to win the tie.”
Funes Mori’s quotes are backed up by the statistics too. Villarreal, with 173, have had the third highest amount of shots in LaLiga so far this season, only behind Barcelona (195) and Real Madrid (184). What’s more, the Yellows are fifth in the ranking for shots on target, with 51.
The Yellow’s No.4 backs his side to carry on working hard and gain confidence to better the current situation: “The team need to show their faces and move forward. We can’t give up. If we continue on the path we’re on, the chances will start going in and the victories will come.” The Argentine defender also hailed the Yellows’ forwards: “We’re calm. We’re a balanced team with a great capacity in front of goal. What’s more, our strikers are top players.”
Finally, Funes Mori shared with the press that the Yellow Submarine were excited to be playing in Europe against Rapid Vienna: “It will be a tough match. The group is very even and we all want to be at the top to get into the next round. The team is really keen to get a victory in Austria to head in the right direction to the knockout stages.”
