Marcelino has underlined that Villarreal are looking for their first league win of the season against a demanding opponent, Sevilla FC
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral has appeared this Thursday in front of the media to analyse the upcoming match against Sevilla FC, corresponding to Matchday 2 of the 2024/25 LALIGA EA Sports season, which will kick-off at 9:30pm CEST this Friday, at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
To kick his press conference off, the Yellows head coach offered words of condolence after the loss of Paquito García, someone who was much loved in the club: “He’s someone who I was lucky enough to meet in my last spell here. He’s left an unforgettable legacy at this club and I want to thank him for that.”
After the draw against Atlético de Madrid at La Cerámica, Marcelino underlines that Villarreal are heading to Sevilla with the sole focus of winning at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán: “That is always our aim. Not just today, but the whole season. Winning each match and competing at the highest level, while we are also showing the best version of ourselves.”
Regarding the opposition, he found a number of things that they have in common with the Yellow Submarine. “We’re two teams in a similar situation, we’ve had a lot of players leaving and a number of new arrivals. We’re two teams that are growing, but who want to win. They are making their first appearance in front of their home fans this season, and will try to beat us. They’re a team that is powerful physically, who know the style of football they want to play, something which they will improve on as each game goes by. With their new head coach, they will look to have control of the ball and possession. We have to try and stop them from being able to do so. It won’t be easy. Playing at the Sánchez-Pizjuán never is.”
The manager from Asturias also took time to analyse the arrival of the two latest signings, goalkeeper Luiz Júnior and forward Thierno Barry. “Barry is a player who’s already been playing competitive football. He’s ready to do so with us. He needs to adapt to the country, to the league and to his team-mates. He’s a resource we have and we can use him already. He’s an intense player, with a great physical condition and who attacks space well. He’s young, he’s exciting at the moment and we hope he has a great future,” he said.
Regarding the Brazilian goalkeeper, Marcelino also underlined his happiness after his arrival: “He’s also a very young kid, but he has a lot of experience in top-flight football for his age. He has great conditions and he seems like a humble and hard-working guy. We have two greta goalkeepers and whoever deserves to play more will do so.”
