Manu Trigueros has played seven seasons for Villarreal CF and has extended his contract until 2022
Following in the footsteps of Yellows legends like Bruno and Marcos Senna. Manu Trigueros has played seven seasons at Villarreal and has extended his contract until 2022, putting him on the right path to become another Submarine legend. The midfielder from Talavera was overjoyed at the press conference, that was led by Villarreal CF President, Fernando Roig, at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva).
The Submarine’s number 14 could not take the smile off his face after extending his contract for two more seasons (original contract until 2020): “Ever since my first day at Villarreal I’ve been really happy here. I’ve got better and better and I’m happy to be able to keep playing at this club, which has become my home. I have worked very hard to get where I am. And now that I am here I don’t want to waste this chance and I’m going to keep helping the team as much as I can. Nothing is going to change on my part as a result of this renewal”.
Manu Trigueros was developed in the Yellows Reserve teams, having played for the three main teams at the club: Villarreal C, Villarreal B and now the First Team, and in three different leagues: the Third Division, Second Division A and First Division. In addition, he has also played in the UEFA Champions League Playoffs and the UEFA Europa League for the Submarine. His progression has been truly spectacular.
He came from Real Murcia in the 2010/11 season to play for the Villarreal C team and from there his rise through the ranks was swift. In his first season, Trigueros moved up from the Villarreal C team to the Villarreal B team and, subsequently, to the First Team in 2012, where he has become a key player for the Yellows.
Since his promotion to the First Team, Trigueros has played 183 matches in the First Division, Second Division A, UEFA Champions League Playoffs, UEFA Europa League and Copa del Rey. Throughout all these matches the midfielder has racked up a total of 13 goals and 15 assists. Pure magic.
According to Manu Trigueros, his goal now is to win a title with Villarreal before completing his new contract: “My dream is to win a first title with Villarreal. Let’s see if we can do it in the next five years”.
In the event to celebrate the renewal of Trigueros’ contract, those present were Vice President José Manuel Llaneza, CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles, as well as ex-player and current member of the Villarreal CF Institutional Relations Department, Marcos Senna. “I’m proud to have Senna here to celebrate my contract renewal. I hope to continue for many more years at this club, because I’m so happy here. This is a great club and I hope to play for as many years as Senna or Bruno”, he commented.
In fact, the number 14 said that Senna served as inspiration for his recent goal against Real Betis: “The goal I scored in the last match I learnt from Marcos Senna. The Manager always encourages me to shoot from outside the area, as well as our delegate Pascual Donat, so it’s always at the front of my mind”.
Lastly, Trigueros said “I’m going to keep working hard as I have been until now and if the national team comes calling I’ll be very excited. I know it’s very difficult, but I’m going to keep trying to up my level. This year I’m playing more consistently and this helps a lot with confidence. It’s important to be surrounded by players that know each other well. We all get on very well and this shows on the pitch”.
Roig: “This renewal brings great satisfaction”
Villarreal CF President, Fernando Roig, heaped praise on Manu Trigueros. “Trigueros came to Villarreal seven years ago and has played many matches. This event to celebrate the renewal of his contract comes at a great time for everyone because Villarreal are in third place, Manu scored the best goal of the week and now we have made his contract extension official”, he asserted.
The head of the club took the opportunity to congratulate Trigueros: “I congratulate him. His relationship with Villarreal is proving to be a very good one and I just hope this continues for many years to come. It’s really satisfying for me to see former Academy players triumph in the First Team. We’re very happy and I hope you all are too”.
The Submarine are third in the LaLiga Santander, behind Real Madrid and Barcelona. “The environment and stability at the club is good for the team. We’re a demanding club and this has helped with our current third position standing in LaLiga”, the President concluded.
