Villarreal visit Atletico Madrid, unbeaten at home, in one of the toughest games of the season

Villarreal CF will face a tough test this Sunday at the Cívitas Metropoitano (9pm CET). The Submarine will visit Atlético de Madrid, a Champions League team that is coming off the back of a 6-0 win over Celtic in European competition, which also reflects their good sensations in LALIGA EA Sports, where they are in fourth place with 25 points.

The team from Vila-real comes into the game after a creditable comeback in Cyprus. The Yellows turned the scoreline around in the match against Maccabi Haifa (1-2). With two late goals, the team put their qualification to the next round of the UEFA Europa League on track.

In the domestic championship, the Yellows have not been able to find consistency in their results. In their last match, the Submarine lost to Athletic Club at the Estadio de la Cerámica (2-3).

Away from home, on the other hand, the Yellows are finding their most competitive side. Away from La Cerámica, they have won two games against RCD Mallorca (0-1) and Granada CF (2-3) and have picked up two draws against Rayo Vallecano (1-1) and Getafe CF (0-0) in the five visits they have made so far in LALIGA. These away records should serve as a source of inspiration for Villarreal CF as they face their most demanding outing of the campaign so far.

Villarreal know what winning at the Metropolitano is like

Despite Atlético de Madrid being one of the best teams in LALIGA EA Sports in recent years, Villarreal CF have given them a run for their money at home. At the Cívitas Metropolitano, the Submarine have been able to get points from their last three visits. With Unai Emery in the dugout, the Yellows won 0-2 last season and drew twice during the 2021/22 (2-2) and 2020/21 (0-0) seasons.

Atlético Madrid now have 14 home wins in the domestic championship. Their last home defeat came more than a year ago, on 9th November 2022, against RCD Mallorca (0-1), on Matchday 14 of last season.
