The B team overcome a dangerous Alcoyano side and move third in the table
More than just three points. Villarreal B beat a dangerous Alcoyano side at El Collao (0-2) and move up to third in the table thanks to goals from Carlo Adriano and Sergio Lozano, the latter from the penalty spot.
Two standouts in Miguel Álvarez’s starting XI were Jack Harper and Andrei Ratiu. The Scottish striker made his debut for the Yellows, while the right-back returned to the Mini Submarine after his loan spell in the Netherlands.
The B team took control of the ball in the first half. The home side were focused on counter-attacking to cause problems to the Mini Submarine.
In the 19th minute there was controversy. Álex Millán fell in the box when he was one-on-one with José Juan, but the referee did not believe it was enough to point to the penalty spot, despite the Yellows’ captain’s frustration.
The best chance of the first half came in the 37th minute. A Lozano free-kick fell to Andrei’s boots. The right-back’s powerful shot was kept out by a great save from José Juan.
Villarreal B came away with three points. The goal to make it 0-1 came from a set piece. A corner was flicked on by Millán at the near post, before Carlo Adriano finished at the far post, to put the Yellows ahead (m. 65).
It was 0-2 thanks to Lozano. The Yellows No.6 took a perfect penalty after a handball from a Haissem Hassan cross (m.76).
