The Yellows Reserves fall against Atlético Baleares (1-2) and say goodbye to the playoffs

The Villarreal B team lost to Atlético Baleares at the Mini Estadi (1-2) and say goodbye to the promotion playoffs with one match left to play. The Yellows Reserves undefeated streak of eight matches without losing was broken in the worst moment and in the cruelest of ways.

In the first half, the visitors cameo ut sharper and took the Mini Submarine by surprise. Half an hour in, Atlético Baleares took the lead with a goal by Delgado, that culminated in a dangerous play from the right wing. Five minutes later, Atlético Baleares dropped another bombshell to extend their lead through Fullana, straight into the top corner.

After the break, the Villarreal B team came out all guns blazing to get on the score sheet and back in the game. The locals relentless attacking play was finally rewarded as Carlos Martínez headed the ball home at the back post from a brilliant cross by Peris from the left wing.

After the goal, the last half an hour promised to be exciting and it certainly was. Paco López’s side did not give up. In the 75th minute, Mario had the chance to equalize from the heart of the penalty area, but his effort was saved by the Baleares goalkeeper. Shortly after, fantastic solo play by Raba fell a few centimetres short of the target.

In the final mintues, with the Mini Submarine going all out on the attack, Atlético Baleares could have sentenced the match. However, he was stopped by Ander Cantero, the Yellows goalkeeper making an excellent save. In the 90th minute, Raba had another chance to equalize, but his shot from the top of the box went just wide.

This defeat puts an end to the Villarreal B team’s hopes of playing in the promotion playoffs again. The Mini Submarin’es next match will be their last of the league, against Mallorca B at home.
