The B team give their all in Valladolid, but it is not enough to stay up
The Mini Submarine bid farewell to professional football despite fighting with honour against Real Valladolid at the Estadio José Zorrilla (3-2). Their opponents were playing for direct promotion, but Miguel Álvarez’s men didn’t let up and played toe-to-toe in a very difficult scenario, ignoring the pressure due to the team’s situation and the atmosphere in Pucela.
Diego Collado had the chance to surprise with a shot from the edge of the area in the early stages, but his effort went out for a corner after bouncing off a home centre-back. For his part, Ontiveros did the same and only a very attentive Masip prevented the visitors’ goal. Iker Álvarez was also on hand to stop a very dangerous free kick that could have gone in at the near post. The two teams went to the tunnel with the result intact, thanks also to the disallowing of Sylla’s goal for the pucelanosas.
On the hour mark, Real Valladolid took the lead with a goal by Raúl Moro and the stage became really difficult for Miralcamp’s youngsters. However, Stefan Lekovic picked up a loose ball in the box to surprise and put the tie back on the scoreboard and Tasende came back to finish after a great through ball from Rodri Alonso with two minutes left in added time. In the added time, Meseguer and Sylla (penalty), came from behind again to leave the three points in Pucela despite the titanic effort of the youngsters.
In this way, Yellows Academy will leave LALIGA Hypermotion after two unforgettable seasons. Villarreal B will bid farewell to the season at the Estadio de la Cerámica against Real Racing Club next weekend.
